## Savings rate calculator

The share of your take-home pay you keep, worked out in seconds.

1. Enter your take-home pay
2. Enter what you spend
3. See the share you keep

Results are estimates from figures you enter. It does not calculate tax, project super or consider your circumstances.

### How this is calculated

**Savings rate = (income − spending) ÷ income.** This is the take-home version from our guide,[how to calculate your savings rate](https://finsplore.io/resources/guides/how-to-calculate-your-savings-rate-in-australia/), which also covers the gross and with-super versions. Spending above income gives a rate below zero. The ABS figure (6.5%, June quarter 2026) covers all households and is measured differently, so it is a reference point, not a target.

The years to financial independence assume you start with nothing invested, keep the same income and rate, and earn the real return you set (default 5% after inflation, so everything is in today's dollars). The target is yearly spending divided by the withdrawal rate (default 4%, from a US rule of thumb that is not a guarantee; see [what is FIRE in Australia](https://finsplore.io/resources/guides/what-is-fire-in-australia/)). It leaves out tax, fees, super rules, the Age Pension and money already saved, so treat it as a sense of scale.

Default assumptions last checked 20 October 2026.
